Saint John’s First Repair & Mending Cafe’
April 23 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
We are proud to be the first yet again! Not only is SJTL NB’s first tool library, but we are the first in Saint John to organize and host a repair cafe! What’s a repair cafe you ask? Its an event designed to help us bring all those things that need fixing to one place where a whole community of fixers, tinkerer’s and repair types will be so we can learn and get help to fix things. This is a crucial step for our society to make as we see more and more the effects of climate change and over-consumption wear on our planet and society. By learning to fix broken items or mend ripped clothing, we declare war on the forces of consumerism which try and convince us its easier to buy a new one.
We will have some experts on site in various departments but cannot promise that we will be able to fix your item. We cannot work on Televisions or microwaves in our space and are unable to accommodate space for ovens and refrigerators. Other small electronics, wood items, or dull knives we can work with though.
This event is free and co-hosted by the Saint John Free Public Library. Donations are encouraged if you end up getting something fixed and All donations go to support the future work of the SJTL. Feel free to come to support this worthwhile initiative even if you don’t need something fixed; its good to know people want this in their city.
